Description
This focused, 1.5-hour demonstration course introduces Passive House professionals to the efficient use of designPH and the Variants Tab in the Passive House Planning Package (PHPP) for modeling and comparing multiple buildings or design options within a single PHPP file.
Participants will see, step-by-step, how to:
- Set up the design PH file for import into PHPP
- Set up and navigate the Variants tab to compare multiple design scenarios or buildings without manually duplicating results.
- Activate and manage different variants, including user-defined configurations for components such as windows, insulation, and systems, to reflect the unique attributes of each building or scenario.
- Interpret results directly within PHPP, allowing instant comparison and clear reporting of variant outcomes, streamlining the decision-making process during design or retrofit project development.
- Apply practical tips and best practices for managing variants with complex projects, such as massing and orientation analysis or multi-building sites, including managing data links and customizing variant fields for non-standard features.
By the end of this session, trainees will understand how to set up designPH with multiple building designs or project options, and the PHPP Variants tab capabilities to model, compare, and document these options within a single workbook, thereby saving time and increasing accuracy in Passive House modeling workflows.
Target Audience
Architects, energy modelers, and consultants who are familiar with PHPP basics and want to advance their skills for complex or multi-building projects.
Trainer
Matt Bowers – Director of Building Science at the AUROS Group and PHI Certifier.
