NAPHN 2016 Conference & Expo: Decarbonize Our Future Today, is announced for 2016.
The Third Annual North American Passive House Network Conference & Expo will be held June 13th and 14th, 2016, in New York City: Featuring state-of-the-art building strategies, components and professional development necessary for us to achieve 80% carbon emissions reductions by 2050, the #1 public policy goal of our time.
The conference will take place at the Metropolitan Pavilion, 125 West 18th Street, New York, NY.
NOTE: THE PRESENTATION PROPOSAL SUBMISSION DEADLINE IS JANUARY 15th. FIND OUT MORE HERE.
The scientific consensus is clear – we must reduce overall carbon emissions at least 80% by 2050 to prevent the worst effects of climate change. And Passive House is one of our most powerful tools to achieve it. “As leaders today are headed to Paris for COP21, to pledge action in fighting our climate crisis – stakeholders are invited to NAPHN16 in New York City in June to learn about the means and methodologies that are already proven solutions.” says NAPHN Co-President, Bronwyn Barry.
Conference sessions will feature the latest Passive House developments, including:
- urban, high density and high-rise buildings
- low-rise and rural approaches
- buildings from the arctic to the tropics
- expert scientists from the Passive House Institute
- policymakers with growing expertise in implementing Passive House programs
- multi-family housing, both affordable and market rate
- integration of renewable energy
- steel and concrete construction, wood frame construction and cross-laminated timber (CLT) construction
- the processes, details and results
- expert speakers from around the world including, Europe, the Americas and Asia
The climate crisis is a clear and present danger to our security and prosperity. This challenge has been taken up by city, state and national governments – drafting public policies that demand we make the necessary carbon emissions reductions. Realizing very low-energy/Passive House buildings are essential in the implementation of these policies – to prevent locking current buildings into long-term, unsustainable emission rates. Passive House applied to both new construction and retrofits can reduce heating and cooling energy by 90% and overall energy usage by 75%, effectively enabling wide spread application of net zero and energy positive buildings.
New York City is leading by example. Mayor Bill de Blasio has issued a call to action in his policy report One City: Built to Last and stated at the groundbreaking of Cornell Tech’s new residential tower: “Passive House makes sense as a phrase, but I think it is an activist notion – a transformative notion…This is one example of how New York City can show the world a model that works in today’s reality.”
Building on the success of the NAPHN14 conference in Portland, Maine and the NAPHN15 conference in Vancouver, British Columbia, New York welcomes you to join those achieving 80 x 50 at NAPHN16.
