Maintain Your Credential

While you apply your Passive House knowledge to your work when opportunities arise, it can be difficult to complete a project because client desires, programs, budgets, and teams must come together and get it done within 5 years of earning your Certified Passive House Designer/Consultant credential. Consequently, to maintain the credential, you need to submit 100 units of completed PHI-accredited continuing education courses as a student or teacher.

You can get a full rundown of the options, rules, costs, and procedures for renewal on our webpage here.

How Many Credits and When?

While 100 credit units can sound like a lot, there is good news: First, that’s just 20 per year, and second, 1 credit is for 40 minutes of coursework. Consequently, a 2-hour course may provide 3 credits if set up correctly.

If you do run late in submitting the credits, there is a grace period to complete them. If your credential expires, it can be reactivated upon submission and acceptance of the credits.

Finding Applicable Course Offerings

Good news: there are many avenues to obtain PHI credits. We recommend starting with PHN Specialized courses, as they are integral to developing critical knowledge and skills, beginning with learning energy modeling with PHPP. Thermal bridge modeling with THERM or FLIXO and diving deeper into the worlds of PER, EnerPHit, Enclosures, Mechanical Systems, and more. In addition to growing on-demand courses, we are scheduling one live-online specialized course each month and developing new courses.

Then there are Chapter meetings, online events, and conferences, which typically offer PHI CEUs for attending.

PHI & iPHA has direct offerings through monthly webinars, the international conference, and more.

Because Passive House is a global effort, you should take advantage of regional, national, and international offerings. There are a multitude of Passive House and Passive House supporting organizations globally – many in English.
