NEW YORK, N.Y. – Bruce Becker, Architect and President of Becker and Becker Associates, Inc. has joined The Passive House Network Board of Directors. He’ll join a team dedicated to bringing exceptional Passive House education and advocacy to create a sustainable, healthy built environment.
“As a vibrant community of inspired practitioners and educators, the Passive House Network empowers designers, builders, owners, and policymakers with the knowledge needed to shape a better future for the built environment,” said Becker. “I’m honored to join the board and excited to help broaden the reach and deepen the impact of PHN.”
Becker brings a wealth of experience from his design firm, which focuses on green supportive, affordable, and mixed-income housing, community centers, child and senior day care, and urban and historical revitalization projects. His work includes the rehabilitation of the former Bank of America tower in Hartford, CT, into a LEED Platinum mixed-income community, and the restoration of the historic Octagon tower on Roosevelt Island in Manhattan to create a mixed-income community and waterfront park. Most recently, Becker completed the certified historic rehabilitation of the Pirelli building in New Haven, originally designed by Marcel Breuer, into Hotel Marcel, the first Passive House certified hotel in the United States. His experience will bring critical insight to The Passive House Network (PHN).
“Bruce Becker’s addition to The Passive House Network is a significant milestone,” said PHN’s Board Chair Katelyn Meehan. “His extensive experience in sustainable architecture and his commitment to energy efficiency aligns perfectly with our mission to advance high-performance building standards. We are excited to leverage his expertise to further our goal of creating healthier, more sustainable living environments.”
In addition to his architectural work, Becker has dedicated himself to community and public service. He is the former Chairman of the Harlem School of the Arts and The Institute for Architecture and Urban Studies. He is one of seven Commissioners on the United States Commission of Fine Arts, the Director of Land Use Atlas, Inc., and Chair of the Electric Vehicle Club of Connecticut. Becker has founded several non-profit organizations, including Common Ground Community, Under One Roof, Elm City Food Cooperative, Elm Electrical Cooperative, and the Renewable Energy and Efficiency Business Association. The Passive House Network is thrilled to have his knowledge and passion for sustainable building and community development inform their ongoing efforts.
