Course Overview
The Passive House Windows: Introduction to PH Windows is a specialty course within The Passive House Network’s educational offerings and part of the Passive House Windows course group.
In this course, we cover the basics of the Passive House standard and the specifics as it relates to high performance windows. This is an introductory course geared towards professionals, home owners, or curious parties alike. The course will begin with a brief overview on the history of glass, where students will learn the basic components and production methods for manufacturing windows. After this initial review, the course will look at the specific drivers that relate to window performance. These will include issues of thermal comfort, visual comfort, aesthetic considerations and energy efficiency. The following section of the module will take a closer look at specific window components and how they relate to the performance of the window. We will then address the requirements for certifying a window to the Passive house standard as well as the different types of certified units available on the market. The last sections will cover the basic theory behind the window energy balance equation as well as a look at several example projects built to the PH standard.
