In this course, we provide an in-depth look at Passive House windows, why they are primary drivers of building performance, what drives window performance, and how to calculate and install them so the design is optimized and the end result is predictable. Sections cover an introduction and history, certification and factors of hygiene and comfort. We’ll look at design and detailing, performance criteria and case studies.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify the historical evolution of window performance, terminology and components.
- Evaluate risk of mold and condensation
- Specify and install windows to avoid thermal bridges, condensation and mold while providing excellent thermal comfort.
- Calculate window energy balance.
- Provide shading strategies to avoid or minimize overheating
Instructor:
Ken Levenson, Executive Director, The Passive House Network.
Ken was a practicing architect for over three decades, completing early Passive House projects in New York City. Committed to accelerating Passive House growth and knowledge sharing, he co-founded 475 High Performance Building Supply, was a founding member of the Passive House Alliance, a co-founder of New York Passive House and of NAPHN, which would become The Passive House Network (PHN).
