Course Overview

The Passive House Windows: How to Design and Detail PH Windows is a specialty course within The Passive House Network’s educational offerings and part of the Passive House Windows course group.

In this course, we will cover the design and detailing of Passive House windows. This course is intended for designers and building professionals. The course will begin with an overview of window performance including technical term definitions and general goals of fenestration design. The first section will introduce the basic design criteria and strategies for implementing high performance windows. The section will cover topics such as orientation, siting, shading, daylight modeling and balanced fenestration. Section 2 of this module will switch to the physical properties and specifications of window assemblies. In this section students will learn about the energy performance of windows, covering topics for U-values to Solar heat gain. This section will also introduce the energy calculations used in Passive House certification. The following section will review general window installation methodologies and best proactive. The course will conclude in a real world case study covering the delivery and installation of a window package in a new build single family home.
