Denver
In 2022 Denver adopted Passive House certification for both residential and commercial buildings, allowing for use of Passive House energy models for code compliance. However, it is an alternative compliance pathway, not mandatory.
Massachusetts
Starting in 2023, jurisdictions adopting the Massachusetts opt-in specialized code will require Passive House Certification for large Multifamily buildings for code compliance. The mandate is part of a shift in focus away from overall EUI as the key indicator of building performance, toward Thermal Energy Demand Intensity or TEDI. Passive House is also a compliance pathway (though not mandated) for single and small multifamily buildings.
New York State
New York provided an Overlay of 2018 code allowing for Passive House alternate compliance pathway for 1 and 2 family dwellings, including energy calculations.
Vancouver
The city of Vancouver has included an alternate compliance pathway and zoning incentives to recognize and encourage high performance buildings that are Passive House Certified.
Washington State
Effective January 2020, the 2018 Code update provides Passive House alternative compliance pathway, including energy models, for single-family residential buildings.
