Tour a Passive House in California this May

It’s been almost five months since the fires in Los Angeles were extinguished, but the process of rebuilding is only beginning. As members of the affected communities evaluate their plans for rebuilding, some are asking the question: how can we build better?

The Passive House Network has published some guidance on how the Passive House standard can be incorporated with fire-smart building techniques to create energy-efficient, wildfire resilient buildings that keep occupants safer while lowering carbon emissions and heating and cooling bills. Many community members in California are interested in learning more about what it’s like to live in a Passive House. We’re happy to announce that, this month, you can have the chance to step inside one.

Although International Open Days won’t be happening until November, two projects in California have agreed to open their doors during the month of May. On Saturday, May 10th, tour a SB-9 & EnerPHit remodel in West Los Angeles, and on Sunday, May 25th, tour a Passive House in a Wildland-Urban Interface Zone in Sebastopol.

Do you have a Passive House project in California that you’d like to show off during the month of May? Whether it’s a complete project that you’ve lived in for years, a project that’s just breaking ground, or somewhere in-between, we’d love to share it with the Californian community. Reach out to info@passivehousenetwork.org for more info.

Join us at the USGBC California Conference on May 22nd in San Francisco! Visit us at the Smoke-Tight Zone, where we’ll be highlighting the smoke-tight power of Passive House with some vendors who have the components to make it happen. We’ll also be making a special announcement to share with conference attendees and the rest of the world. Check back on May 22nd for more information.
