Passive House at the
Minnesota State Fair
Passive House Minnesota (PHMN) has a longstanding tradition of showing up at the state fair to educate fairgoers on the power of Passive House.
In 2024, PHMN held the Ice Box Challenge outside of the Minnesota Renewable Energy Society Eco Experience Pavilion. This year, PHMN brought their building science knowledge inside with an engaging demonstration on the principles of Passive House. Check out the photos!
“Passive House Minnesota was proud to have an educational exhibit in this building,” said Marcy Conrad Nutt, one of the PHMN Chapter Leaders. ”It was the go-to place for learning ways to save money and the planet.”
The inviting display allowed fair-goers to explore the five principles of Passive House. The exhibit included:
- A tactile demonstration of thermal bridging that shows how structural members can bring unwanted heat or cold into the building if they are not strategically avoided
- A triple pane operable tilt & turn window section
- Real filters from a local home during wildfire season, which demonstrates the outdoor pollutants that can be mitigated with a high-quality ERV heat recovery and filtration system
This year’s Minnesota State Fair saw nearly 2 million visitors throughout the week-and-a-half long event, representing a massive audience that had a new opportunity to get to know the energy- and cost-saving power of Passive House. We’re thrilled to see our local chapters find new ways to engage with their communities.
