Passive House Gulf Coast and Beyond
Passive House Gulf Coast serves the hot and humid Gulf Coast and beyond. We are a group of Passive House professionals, practitioners, developers, and supporters who advocate for the international Passive House building energy standard.
Passive House Gulf Coast regularly engages with the community to promote better building standards. We hold monthly online meetings on topics like affordable housing, multifamily buildings, open air saunas, and strategies for building in hot, humid, and tropical climates. We are friends and affiliates of Instituto Latinoamericano Passivhaus and we aim to learn from Passive House practitioners from around the world. We are always looking for volunteers who are ready to engage with our community!
See our Substack for recordings of past meetings and updates for future meetings.
The First Passive House Pickleball Court
The Gulf region is home to the first Passive House Pickleball Court in the world. The facility is approximately 31,500 square feet inside of 3 stories with 12 courts. Sitting between Austin and San Antonio, Texas Pickle Hall provides a cool and comfortable recreational space in an otherwise unforgiving environment. With every game played, the building proves that Passive House is not only possible in hot and humid conditions, but necessary.
The building also proves the business case for Passive House. Because of the focus on an airtight building envelope, a smaller, cheaper mechanical system is needed to cool the space. This saved money during construction and locks in continual savings on monthly energy bills. At the same time, the comfortable space means players keep coming back and bringing their friends, driving revenue and creating a new space for community.
Texas Pickle Hall was designed by Urban Earth. Read more about the building in our Case Study.
