See High-Performance Passive House in Action During the Hotel Marcel Building Tour

The Only Passive House Hotel in North America will be available to tour on June 4th & 5th.

NEW HAVEN, CT – If you wanted to learn how a Passive House hotel works, now is your chance. Building enthusiasts and hospitality experts alike can get an inside look at Hotel Marcel, the only Passive House in North America, during the 2026 Passive House Network Conference on June 4th & 5th. Held by The Passive House Network (PHN), the conference and accompanying tour is a celebration of the best in building science, and there’s no better place to hold it than a Passive House hotel.

Hotel Marcel provides an all-electric, Net-Zero experience from check-in to check-out, and a large part of this experience is enabled by a design, building envelope, and components that aren’t immediately apparent. Led by the experts involved in the EnerPHit restoration of the original Marcel Breuer building, this tour will pull back the curtain and demonstrate how this concept can work in other large buildings. Architects and designers may be especially interested in exploring the Building Controls, Domestic Hot Water systems, and ERVs.

For those unable to stay at the hotel, a Hotel Suite will be available to tour so you can experience the comfort of a room for yourself. Attendees can also tour the all-electric laundry and kitchen, which is powered by onsite renewable energy, including solar panels in the parking lot and roof.

“This building is an exemplar of everything we want to see in our built environment,” said Ken Levenson, Executive Director of PHN. “It’s efficient, resilient, comfortable, and built with the future in mind. It shows that we don’t have to compromise on what we want from our buildings.”

Hotel Marcel is a Passive House EnerPHit and LEED Platinum Certified building. It was also named the 2023 Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) Regional Energy Project of the Year in the Northeast U.S. It is the first hotel in the country to receive this award.

In addition to the Building Tour, the Conference will feature 22 sessions on Passive House content over two days, an expo celebrating the latest developments in Passive House components, and plenty of opportunities to network and connect with Passive House practitioners from around the world. Tickets will sell out soon. Register and secure your spot here.

Those interested in touring the building will receive a sign-up link after registering for the conference.
